Through a family member of one of our Shedders we learnt that Treehouse pre-school in Winslow needed our help. For some time, parents and children had been walking past a forlorn looking bench seat next to a tree outside the nursery. Wrapped in black/yellow tape it was dangerous to sit on and in need of a serious remake. An obvious project for the Winslow Shed.
Firstly, we took measurements from the existing wooden seating of this hexagonal bench and set about finding appropriate reclaim wood from our store to make a full set of replacement panels. It was then time to dismantle the current bench but given the state of it, demolition is a more appropriate description. School holidays had begun, so there was no danger to any little ones as we cleared the site and took the reusable metal elements back to the Shed for a full makeover.
Suddenly, rusty old grey posts turned into gleaming green ones, ready for a few more years braving the weather. Rebuilding began with now just four of the original seating sections being pre-assembled at the Shed, before a couple of us re-assembling the whole thing back on site. Now it’s just a four-sided ‘hexagon’(?), given the proximity of the more recently erected metal railings adjacent. Once securely positioned and permanently fixed to the ground, the bench is now ready for the new term, and we hope many more to come.
