Shed Shout Out! - September 2025A memorable Summer for MISW with nearly 40 Shedders turning-up to a BBQ to mark our tenth birthday. Although well-established in Australia, in 2015 Men’s Sheds were still very much a novelty over here. A Shed for Winslow did seem like a good idea but nobody could be sure the idea would catch on. We need not have worried. As we enter our second decade, our membership stands at about 60 and our twice-weekly attendance numbers are typically around 20 or more. Even on our quietest days during the August holiday season, numbers have still been sufficient to just about keep up with a steady demand for making and mending. Kind donations for this work and a tide of support and goodwill from local people and businesses have helped us with the materials, resources and premises we have needed to establish and grow - we can look forward to the next ten years with well-placed optimism. Among the many summer jobs to occupy us has been Derek’s complete re-construction of an ornamental dovecot. An outstanding and inspiring piece of work but not something many Shedders feel brave enough to copy! St Laurence Church have also kept us busy with a batch of card tables to refurbish and re-baize as well as signs and a rather special large oak notice board. We’ve sourced some locally grown and seasoned material for this job so making it will be a labour of love for sure. If you 'play your cards right' we could do a little job for you too!! |
