Shed Shout Out! - July 2026Life is a little quieter in the Shed at this time of the year as holidays and warmer(!!) weather compete with sawdust and shavings for Shedders’ attention – but not all Shedders appreciate the summertime. A place for Snow!‘Snow’ is a regular visitor with member Andrew when he comes in to indulge his passion for woodturning but sunshine and warmth is really not what her Siberian heritage enjoys. What better reason then, to turn away from the lathe for a few weeks and make her a special garden shelter? Not so much a kennel, more a doggy summerhouse where she can enjoy her own space and some cool shade. I think we can all relate to that! Whitchurch School Book Swap CabinetSeveral years ago, a local lady asked if we could make her a ‘garden library’. We weren’t quite sure what that was but, after a bit of clarification, what emerged was what we now know as a ‘Book Swap’ cabinet. Since then, we have made quite a few with this one being the last of a batch of three Mick and Derek have completed for various locations in Swanbourne. Whitchurch School are about to install the child-size cabinet Ray has made for them; this one will be sited next to the school gate. Steeple Claydon School have one we made them for use at playtime as a moveable ‘playground library’. With concern about children spending too much time on screens these days, maybe we can all take a bit of encouragement from the rise of the Book-Swap? We’re looking forward to finding out more when we’ll be at Steeple Claydon School’s Summer Fete on Saturday 4th July.

| It might be spring but it can still be chilly at times and with the cost of heating still prohibitive you can be assured of a warm welcome at the Shed! |
